About us

We Build Scanning Systems for Demanding Capture Work

Esper designs and builds advanced 3D and 4D scanning systems for teams that need accurate, repeatable real-world data.

Based in Nottingham, UK and supplying customers globally, we bring together camera systems, lighting, triggering, power distribution, software control and practical engineering to create capture systems that work reliably in real production and research environments.

Our work spans head and face scanning, body capture, object scanning, performance capture and custom multi-camera systems.

Practical Engineering, Built Around the Capture Problem

We are not simply a reseller of cameras or components. Esper systems are designed around the full capture workflow.

That means thinking about the subject, the data required, the lighting conditions, the camera positions, the timing, the operator experience, the studio environment and the client’s downstream pipeline.

Some projects need a compact scanning setup. Others need a large geodesic dome, specialist lighting, synchronised camera arrays, 4D capture, AI dataset production or a completely custom system.

Our role is to understand the capture problem and engineer the right system around it.

Designed, Built and Supported In-House

Esper combines design, electronics, mechanical assembly, software configuration and system integration from our Nottingham offices and production facility.

Having these capabilities in-house allows us to prototype quickly, refine designs, test ideas and solve practical problems without relying on off-the-shelf assumptions.

We build systems for people who need dependable capture tools, not just impressive specifications.

What We Care About

Data Quality

The purpose of every Esper system is to capture useful, high-quality data. Whether the output is a digital human, an object dataset, a research asset or a production model, the system has to deliver data the client can actually use.

Repeatability

A good scan should not depend on luck. We design our systems so that capture conditions can be controlled, repeated and trusted across sessions.

Practical Operation

Scanning systems need to work for the people using them. We think carefully about setup, triggering, lighting control, power, cabling, safety, maintenance and the day-to-day reality of operating a system.

Custom Engineering

Many of the best capture systems are not standard products. We regularly adapt, configure or design systems around unusual requirements, spaces, subjects and workflows.
Our technology is trusted by organisations including Industrial Light & Magic, WETA, Sony, Disney, Ubisoft, EA, and Rocksteady. In these environments, performance is critical. ESPER systems are deployed in production pipelines where accuracy, reliability, and throughput directly impact outcomes. This experience informs everything we build, ensuring our systems meet the demands of real world use at the highest level.

If you’re planning a project, developing a capture facility or trying to solve a difficult data acquisition problem, we can help specify the right system. Tell us what you need to capture and how the system will be used. We’ll help work out the right approach.

Designed to fit your requirements

We do not work to a fixed system format.

Each project is built around the subject, the environment, and the workflow. That can mean a permanent installation, a modular system, a portable setup, or a fully custom solution.

Control Where It Matters

We develop our hardware and software in-house, including synchronisation, lighting control, and image processing.

Our software checks capture quality during acquisition and can generate the outputs needed for downstream workflows, reducing manual processing.
